Selangor faces off Sabah in Education Minister’s Cup debate final

GEORGE TOWN, Sept 11 — The national-level Education Minister's Cup Generasi Madani Debate 2025 will conclude with a showdown between teams from Selangor and Sabah at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) on September 22.

Ministry of Education (MOE) Sports, Co-curriculum and Arts Division deputy director Ahmad Haridan Mohamed said both teams will battle it out in the grand final before Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

“A total of 16 teams representing every state and the Federal Territories participated in this competition, which involves secondary school students. It began at the district level, then advanced to the state level, and finally to the national level.

“This competition serves as a medium to produce debaters from among the Generasi Madani who can argue constructively and politely, while at the same time reflecting the identity of a school student,” he told reporters after the closing ceremony of the Penang-level stage officiated by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow last night.

Since it began on September 8, the competition has seen Selangor and Sabah emerge as the two teams through to the semi-final stage, with the selection of the 10 best debaters throughout the tournament.

This parliamentary-style debate competition aims to develop a generation of students who are critical, eloquent in arguments and able to convey opinions with decorum in line with the aspirations of Generasi Madani. In addition, it provides a platform to cultivate student leadership through public speaking and mature, rational thinking.
