SUBANG JAYA, Aug 22 — The sewage pipe at Jalan SS15/4 and SS15/8 here have been replaced, with an allocation of RM2.74 million.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze said the pipe was replaced following frequent complaints from residents and business owners about sewage clogs.

“Since 2023, we have received 88 complaints about the pipe, which is more than 30 years old, which is frequently damaged from clogging, causing sewage backflow into connected premises.

“With the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) sewage fund contributions capital, pipe replacement was completed in 18 months compared with the earlier expected 12 months.

“The sewage pipe was replaced with a 225mm vitrified clay pipe along 400m, involving 46 shoplots,” she told a press conference today.

Ng said there were delays as the team faced challenges in controlling soil movement.

“Soil control is a must to ensure built structures aren’t affected and construction can progress as there is no damage to buildings.

“The project, implemented by SPAN and Indah Water Konsortium, will benefit 40,000 residents, including workers and students,” Ng said.

Meanwhile, SPAN Regional Operations Division senior director Mohd Jalaludin Sulaiman urged traders in the area to obey laws and not dump prohibited waste.

“This sewage pipe is a public asset, and it is an offence if premises owners do not abide (by the law). This is to ensure pipe systems last according to their determined lifespans.

“Errant traders face action under Section 61 of the Water Services Industry Act 2006,” Jalaludin said.
