SHAH ALAM, Aug 19 — Malaysia’s trade with the United States rose to RM394.91 billion in 2024, totalling 11.3 per cent of the country’s total trade of RM2.88 trillion, said Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

This makes the US Malaysia’s third-largest trading partner after China at RM484.12 billion and Singapore at RM396.22 billion.

He said exports to the US also climbed 23.2 per cent to RM199 billion in 2024, representing 13.2 per cent of total exports.

“In June 2025, Malaysia’s exports to the US recorded year-on-year growth for the 18th consecutive month since 2023.

“The sharp increase was likely driven by front-loading activities, as businesses sought to mitigate the impact of higher operating costs ahead of the retaliatory tariffs that took effect on August 1,” Tengku Zafrul said in a Parliamentary written reply yesterday.

He added that electrical and electronics goods dominated exports, valued at RM120.1 billion or 60.4 per cent of shipments in 2024, followed by optical and scientific products (RM12.9 billion), machinery and equipment (RM8.8 billion), rubber products (RM7.4 billion), and wood products (RM6 billion).

Manufactured goods made up 78 per cent of Malaysia’s exports to the US, whereas services for exports also grew 3.6 per cent to RM37.3 billion, led by manufacturing services, business services, and transport.

Tengku Zafrul said the ministry is working with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) to both diversify into new markets like Africa and Latin America and strengthen ties with traditional partners.
