Selangor adopts AI tech to drive smart state transformation

PETALING JAYA, Aug 14 — The Selangor Multi-Cloud (SMC) service is set to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) culture, driving digital transformation towards a smart and digitally empowered state.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative will also enhance the quality of public service delivery, in addition to benefiting subsidiaries of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI in areas like housing, water systems, solid waste management, and digital technology.

Beginning with MBI Selangor and its subsidiaries in the third quarter of this year, SMC's usage will be gradually expanded to state agencies, the local authorities, government-linked companies, and other institutions, with full operational readiness expected by the fourth quarter of next year at the latest.

“This will, among other things, speed up transactions at public service counters involving MBI subsidiaries like Air Selangor, KDEB Waste Management, and Kusel, which manages the utility management corridor, SSDU, and Tourism Selangor.

“It will also reduce administrative costs, allowing more state allocations to be channelled towards education, healthcare, and infrastructure, while ensuring the security of personal data, and opening up opportunities for innovations that make everyday life easier,” he said during the SMC launch ceremony today.

Amirudin added that SMC is an initiative aligned with the National Cloud Computing Policy, which emphasises innovation, efficiency, data security, and digital inclusivity.

“By adhering to national-level data security and sovereignty standards, SMC ensures that Selangor’s digital transformation remains secure, inclusive, and competitive.

“Through strategic collaboration with global technology partners, SMC can promote the adoption of secure, scalable, and cost-efficient multi-cloud solutions among state agencies and companies under MBI Selangor, thereby accelerating digital transformation efforts at the state level,” he said.

During the press conference, the Menteri Besar noted that the strategic initiative is led by the state government through MBI via its wholly owned company Smartsel Sdn Bhd (Smartsel), in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Alibaba Cloud, and Google Cloud, facilitated by VSTECS Berhad, Awantec Systems Sdn Bhd, and Enfrasys Consulting Sdn Bhd.

“SMC is expected to strengthen state government services by enhancing digital infrastructure, building internal capabilities, and encouraging innovation.

“In addition to accelerating the adoption of digital technology in state government agencies and MBI subsidiaries, it will reinforce MBI Selangor’s position as a leading provider of connectivity and cloud infrastructure solutions,” he said.
