MOSCOW, Aug 6 — Malaysia is a reliable partner of Russia in the Asia-Pacific region, according to materials for the meeting between His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia; and Russian President Vladimir Putin, released by the Kremlin today, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.

“Malaysia is a reliable, time-tested partner of Russia in the Asia-Pacific region, an authoritative member of Asean, and one of the leaders of the Muslim world,” the release read.

It also noted that Russia and Malaysia maintain close positions on many global and regional issues.

“The two states, which hold similar or coinciding positions on many pressing issues on the global and regional agenda, are effectively interacting at the United Nations and in other multilateral formats,” it read.

Russia and Malaysia also consider BRICS as a platform for coordinating interests of the world’s majority countries and an effective mechanism for multilateral cooperation, according to the materials.

“Dialogue with Asean is one of the priorities of Russian policy in the Asia-Pacific region. Malaysia’s chairmanship of Asean in 2025 has contributed to the intensification of interaction within the framework of Russia’s strategic partnership with the association,” the release read.
