Dewan Rakyat to cover govt debt, Cambodia-Thailand conflict talks today

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Malaysia’s role in facilitating peace talks and a ceasefire in the Cambodia-Thailand conflict is among the focus of Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

Based on the Order Paper on the Parliament portal, the matter would be raised by Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong) to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during Ministers’ Question Time.

In the same session, Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (PN-Kuala Kangsar) will seek clarification from Anwar on whether the Madani Government was managing the national debt responsibly.

Meanwhile, in the question-and-answer, Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (Warisan-Kota Belud) will ask Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan about the proposed joint development with Indonesia in the ND6 and ND7 Ambalat blocks.

She will also ask whether the same method would be used through the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Authority or another method given that the rights of Sabah as well as Sarawak are protected under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (PN-Besut) will then ask Anwar to state the government’s decision after a holistic engagement session with stakeholders on the establishment of the Malaysian ombudsman, as well as steps to expedite its setup.

In addition, Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (Harapan-Tebrau) will ask Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin if his ministry will integrate unmanned aerial vehicle technology in the country’s air defence system.

The Dewan Rakyat sitting will then resume with the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan motion tabled by Anwar on July 31.

This Dewan Rakyat session continues until August 28.
