SHAH ALAM, July 24 — The Rahmah Madani Sales programme that has been expanded nationwide is set to help more Selangor residents obtain essential goods at affordable prices.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Dato’ Izham Hashim hailed the federal government’s effort, which was seen to be in line with the Selangor government’s Ehsan Rahmah Sales (JER) under the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS).

“We welcome the Rahmah Madani Sales as it brings great benefits to residents. What’s important is it could lower living costs.

“At the same time, JER will continue, so residents have higher access to buy essentials, including at Ehsan Mart, (where) prices are really affordable compared with market rates,” he told Media Selangor.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a twofold increase in allocations for Rahmah Madani Sales, from RM300 million previously.

This step aims to increase the frequency of sales and expand the event to more locations, involving all 600 state constituencies nationwide.

In Selangor, JER has been implemented since 2022 to help residents face the pressures of living costs. This year, the state government allocated RM30 million to continue the affordable essential goods sales.

The state administration aims to open 10 Ehsan Mart branches by year end. The ones opened so far are in Sungai Tua and Pandan Indah, with one more Ehsan Mart to be launched in Hulu Kelang.

The marts, handled by PKPS, offer basic goods at 10 to 15 per cent cheaper than market prices.

As an improvement to the JER, the state is aiming to open Ehsan Marts in all 56 Selangor state constituencies by 2027.
