Trump says 19 pct tariff to be charged on Indonesian goods

NEW YORK, July 16 — United States (US) President Donald Trump has announced that Indonesia will pay a 19 per cent tariff on all goods exported to the US, while US exports to Indonesia are to be free of tariffs and non-tariff barriers, reported Xinhua.

Speaking on Truth Social on Tuesday, he said that he "finalised an important Deal with the Republic of Indonesia after speaking with President Prabowo Subianto. This landmark Deal opens up Indonesia's ENTIRE MARKET to the United States for the first time in History."

As part of the agreement, Indonesia has committed to purchasing US$15 billion (RM63.7 billion) in energy and US$4.5 billion (RM19.13 billion) in agricultural products from the US market, besides 50 Boeing jets.

"For the first time ever, our Ranchers, Farmers, and Fishermen will have Complete and Total Access to the Indonesian Market of over 280 million people," Trump wrote.

Before leaving for Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, he told the press at the White House that "as you know, Indonesia is very strong on copper, but we have full access to everything”.

Trump added that Indonesia is rich in rare earths and various other materials.

He also revealed that a couple more deals are going to be announced.

"India basically is working along that same line. We are going to have access into India," Trump said.
