Its vice-chancellor Dato' Prof Mohd Farid Ravi Abdullah said the initiative is part of the university’s commitment to redefining the approach to Islamic higher education to better align with current needs and industry demands.
“This MoU is not merely an official document, but a step towards enhancing education, research, and providing more industrial training opportunities for our students.
“We expect more MOUs to be signed with relevant agencies soon to ensure UIS students are truly equipped to contribute meaningfully across various sectors,” he said.
Farid was speaking at a press conference following the MOU signing ceremony between UIS and its strategic and commercial partners at the Concorde Hotel today.
The event also witnessed the formalisation of cooperation between UIS and six agencies, including Kumpulan Pantai Bharu, the Malaysian Islamic Tourism Development Association (MiTDA), XOG Consultancy, SixtySix Academy, Uni Assist Malaysia, and Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad.

Meanwhile, MiTDA president Captain Mahadzir Mansor said the MOU with UIS focuses on strengthening the field of Islamic tourism education in line with MiTDA’s efforts to promote Malaysian Islamic culture at the international level.
This initiative will pave the way for student exchange programmes between UIS and overseas institutions, particularly in countries expressing interest in tourism based on Islamic values.
“We are currently in discussions to launch the student exchange programme as early as the end of this year, with China among the most interested countries, as they wish to observe how Islamic culture is practised harmoniously in Malaysia’s multiracial society.
“Through this programme, international students will have the opportunity to experience first-hand the culture, heritage, and Islamic education system in our country,” he said.
