JERTIH, July 3 — The skipper of a boat which capsized off Pulau Perhentian on Saturday (June 29), killing three of the passengers, pleaded guilty at the Besut Magistrate's Court today to drug abuse.
Azrie Yazid, 22, was charged with self-administration of the drug Nimetazepam, which is listed in Parts III and IV of the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He was charged with committing the offence at the Narcotics Office of the Besut district headquarters at 10.05am on June 29.
The charge, under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides for a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years upon conviction.
The court allowed Azrie bail of RM2,500 with one surety and set September 4 for mention.
The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer Inspector Mohd Zaidi Mat Yasin, while lawyer Norhuda Mohamed Khan, from the National Legal Aid Foundation, represented the accused.
