PUTRAJAYA, July 2 — The Green Electricity Tariff (GET) programme for this year will continue with improvements, in line with the implementation of the new electricity tariff schedule that came into effect yesterday (July 1).
The Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry (Petra) said the GET premium rate, which previously varied by user category, will be consolidated into a single-tier pricing, with a reduction of up to 80 per cent in the premium rate.
"A one-year period will be subject to a premium rate of five sen per kilowatt hour (kWh); two years at a rate of four sen per kWh; and three years at a rate of three sen per kWh for all categories of domestic and non-domestic users," it said in a statement today.
Petra added that the GET subscription by users who were previously not charged the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) will also remain exempt from the Automatic Fuel Adjustment (AFA) mechanism that replaces the ICPT.
Taking into account the possibility of structural changes and cost implications for existing customers, GET users are given the option to terminate their subscription without any penalty until August 31.
Additionally, the government has agreed to introduce the Greenpath Programme mechanism to meet the needs of data centre owners, industrial users, and commercial users who subscribe to a green electricity supply, allowing them to receive recognition for their green energy usage through the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC).
The programme will be implemented by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and will be open for subscription from August 1.
Among the implementation criteria is that customers need to register and inform the 'tenant account' that will receive the REC; the number of RECs received will be equivalent to the amount of green electricity supply billed to GET customers; and a charge of 0.2 sen per kWh will be imposed as administration and handling costs.
Users who wish to renew or subscribe to the GET programme can do so via the TNB website or by contacting the nearest TNB Kedai Tenaga, starting today.
"With the determination and improvements to this GET programme, PETRA hopes it will provide certainty to corporate and industrial companies in planning to subscribe to green electricity supplies, as well as further strengthen the credibility of this programme," said the ministry.
The GET programme was introduced in 2021 as a government strategic initiative to offer electricity supply from renewable energy (RE) sources to TNB users who want to reduce their carbon footprint.
Since then, the GET programme has cumulatively supplied 10,500 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of green electricity to over 3,551 users.
