HULU LANGAT, July 1 — Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd have signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) to jointly plan and implement alternative water supply solutions for Central Spectrum’s development in Pulau Indah.
It was signed by Central Spectrum chief executive officer (CEO) Mohd Zapi Abdullah and Air Selangor CEO Adam Saffian Ghazali at the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant today, witnessed by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari and state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Datuk Izham Hashim.
Under the agreement, both parties will establish a Joint Steering Committee to oversee strategic planning and feasibility studies for water reclamation plants, seawater desalination facilities, in-situ desalination systems, or other alternative water supply solutions.
Amirudin said the potential use of seawater desalination by Air Selangor and Central Spectrum will be evaluated based on cost and efficiency.
“If the desalination initiative proves viable, it could serve as a model for development along Selangor’s extensive coastline and offer an alternative water source for certain sectors, such as chalets and hotels.
“Perhaps we also want to cater to other services, including port-related activities that require a reliable water supply,” he said during a press conference after witnessing the signing ceremony.
As part of the collaboration, Central Spectrum will provide full financial backing for the project, covering feasibility studies, design, and construction of the plant, while Air Selangor will contribute technical expertise and secure the necessary regulatory approvals to ensure a sustainable and efficient water supply system.
The collaboration aims to develop alternative water sources and support the long-term development of Pulau Indah, ensuring high-quality and reliable water services for industries in the area.
Meanwhile, Zapi described the partnership as a significant milestone in securing sustainable water resources for future developments in Pulau Indah.
“With Air Selangor’s technical expertise and our financial commitment, we are confident in our ability to establish a robust water supply system to meet future demands,” he said.
At the event, Air Selangor also signed a separate MoC with Universiti Selangor (Unisel) and the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) to further strengthen the development of Selangor’s water industry ecosystem.
The Menteri Besar said the strategic partnership brings together three key institutions in the state - Air Selangor for its industry expertise, Unisel for academic support, and STDC for technical skills development.
“This collaboration lays a strong foundation for industrial training programmes, joint research, technical education, project-based learning, and long-term industry partnerships,” he said.
