SEPANG, June 5 — Selangor Aero Park (SAP) can boost Malaysia’s position as Asean’s main air cargo hub, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

He said the development of the new industry will fulfil the government’s aim to make KLIA Aeropolis a strategic and competitive regional aviation and logistics hub.

“The development of this aero park is highly relevant to making KLIA a main aviation hub, not just an airport.

“This Selangor Aero Park can also attract high-impact investments, by supplying investors with manufacturing and aerospace technology,” he added when met after launching the SAP groundbreaking ceremony here today.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari was also present.

Loke added that the SAP, which is the result of a collaboration between Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, will be a specific industry zone targeting companies in aerospace manufacturing and supply chain.

“This includes the manufacture of aircraft components and relevant technologies, and maintenance, repair and overhaul services,” he said.

The SAP is an aspiration under the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Master Plan 2030 to generate an annual income of RM55.2 billion in the aerospace sector.

Spanning a 600-acre area in KLIA Aeropolis, the SAP has a gross development value potential of RM2.3 billion.
