KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 — Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) logged a 13.9 per cent month-on-month increase in passenger movements across its network in Malaysia and Türkiye in April, supported by the launch of new airline services and expanded connectivity to key regional and international destinations.
This includes British Airways’ commencement of the daily London-Kuala Lumpur service, significantly enhancing KL International Airport’s (KLIA) long-haul connectivity.
FitsAir has also begun operating four weekly flights from Colombo to KLIA Terminal 2, while Myanmar Airways International launched a new route connecting Yangon and Penang twice a week, strengthening links to Southeast Asian destinations.
MAHB managing director Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani said the new services reflected rising demand, stronger airline partnerships, and expanding access to Malaysia.
“By connecting to more key cities, we are creating greater opportunities for tourism, trade, and investment for the country, while continuing to enhance the airport ecosystem for our airline partners and passengers,” he said in a statement.
Passenger movements across the MAHB network, including its operations in Türkiye, reached 12.1 million in April, up from 10.7 million in March.
In Malaysia, total passenger movements rose by 15.6 per cent to 8.3 million during the month, supported by domestic travel which increased by 25.2 per cent to 4.2 million passengers, driven by the festive season travel and school holidays.
The international travel segment also saw passenger movements growing by 7.5 per cent to 4.2 million passengers.
Meanwhile, MAHB’s wholly owned asset in Türkiye, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, saw passenger movements expand by 10.3 per cent to 3.8 million in April.
International passengers increased 8.4 per cent to 2.14 million, while domestic passengers grew 12.8 per cent to 1.7 million.
