Port Klang Free Zone unveils new masterplan for future-ready, smart zone

PORT KLANG, May 20 — Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ), Malaysia’s premier integrated commercial and industrial free zone, unveiled the PKFZ 2.0 masterplan today, a bold new vision for a future-ready and smart zone.

Its chief executive officer Priscilla Lim said the transformative roadmap is set to position PKFZ as a next-generation logistics and industrial ecosystem that integrates sustainability, technology, and investor-centric services.

Key initiatives under the 10-year master plan include industrial hub innovation, green development and a business-friendly ecosystem, which, among others, will focus on digitisation, artificial intelligence (AI) driven security and business solutions, as well as value-added investor services and trade facilitation.

“Our timeline we planned out for short term and long term, our short-term goal for this one or two years will be focusing on getting the basics right, such as improving our infrastructure.

“Throughout this period, we will be working with our strategic partner and tenants to increase occupancies and after that, value-added services, which we plan to provide not just warehouse but also other facilities,” she told the press after the PKFZ 20th Anniversary Soft Launch event today.

Also in attendance were PKFZ chairman Lim Lip Eng, Port Klang Authority general manager Captain K. Subramaniam, and National Logistic Centre director Norhasliza Mat Salleh.

Lim added that PKFZ is exploring the possibility of enhancing the township within the Pulau Indah-based commercial and industrial free zone, which includes plans to develop healthcare facilities, higher learning facilities, and centralised labour quarters.

“We currently have our last two pieces of land available, measuring 3.03 hectares (ha) and 1.25 ha, respectively, awaiting proposals by interested companies,” she said.

Lim said its light industrial unit (LIU) occupancy rate is currently at 60 per cent, with another 40 per cent consisting of approximately 150 units still available for rent.

PKFZ’s 20th-anniversary celebration will span the entire year, culminating in a grand finale in October that will include trade exhibitions and high-level networking events.
