SHAH ALAM, May 16 — The Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) is set to breathe new life into the area, transforming it into a vibrant, year-round destination for sport, culture, and community, while acting as a catalyst for Shah Alam’s evolution into a sustainable city with a lasting legacy.
Speaking at the project’s letter of acceptance handover ceremony today, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the redevelopment is not merely a facelift but a reimagining of the iconic stadium as a dynamic hub designed to serve the public throughout the year.
“Unlike the previous single-purpose stadium, which operated less than 30 days a year, the new KSSA is reimagined as a vibrant, multi-use district designed for year-round use.
“This marks a shift from limited infrastructure to a dynamic civic space maximised for public value and community engagement,” he said at the event held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel here.
The revamped complex will feature an indoor multipurpose hall, football training grounds, an arena, and dedicated spaces for arts, cultural events, and performances, among others.
Amirudin said at the heart of the KSSA’s development will be a 310,000 square metre green landscape featuring a botanical garden, jogging and cycling paths, and walkable spaces.
“Recently, when I led the Selangor delegation to Osaka to officiate Selangor Week at the Malaysia Pavilion during World Expo 2025, I observed and appreciated the beauty of Osaka’s parks and cityscape, which, while seemingly simple in design, featured thoughtfully integrated elements that were functional, user-friendly, and pedestrian-oriented.
“I am confident that the KSSA space can serve as a new model in realising Shah Alam’s goal of becoming a low-carbon city within the next five years.
Amirudin said the KSSA will play a major role in boosting entrepreneurial culture by strengthening the small and medium enterprise (SME) ecosystem along the commercial area of Shah Alam city centre.
Additionally, the development that built as a sustainable, multi-purpose hub will integrate elements of sports, retail, and entertainment in a comprehensive manner, with a lifestyle mall to be directly connected to the indoor arena and main stadium.
“The inclusion of hotels, restaurants and a transit terminal is expected to create jobs and drive local economic activity.”
“The KSSA master plan also prioritises accessibility and connectivity to the LRT3 public transport system. This means Selangor residents living in commercial hubs like Kuala Lumpur or as far as Putrajaya will be able to reach the complex without needing to use private vehicles.”
At the handover ceremony, the Selangor government — through Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI — officially appointed Lembaran Prospek Sdn Bhd (LPSB), a wholly owned subsidiary of MRCB Land Sdn Bhd and part of Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), as the project’s main contractor.
The event was witnessed by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, Amirudin, and State Secretary Dato’ Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin.
The letter of acceptance was presented by MBI Group CEO Dato’ Saipolyazan M. Yusop to MRCB group managing director Datuk Imran Salim, representing LPSB.
Designed by local firm Hijjas and global consultants Populous, the KSSA will blend iconic heritage with modern, inclusive elements to meet community needs while aligning with Selangor’s low-carbon goals.
