Malaysia brings taste of tropics to Namibia

KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 — Malaysia’s High Commission in Windhoek yesterday held the third edition of the Malaysian Fruits and Food Promotion show, this time introducing popular local fruits to Namibia.

Among the tropical fruits showcased were Musang King durian, Harum Manis mangoes, nangka madu, lohan guavas, and pomelo, delighting the palates of some 200 guests who attended the event held at the High Commission.

Malaysian Chargé d’Affaires to Namibia Datuk Mohamad Rameez Yahaya said in a statement that the event marks a major step in Malaysia’s efforts to introduce its premium fruits in Namibia.

He said it aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Namibia, particularly in the agricultural sector, by creating opportunities for more Namibians to distribute Malaysian fruits and food products in the country and to nearby African markets.

He added that discussions were underway with Namibia’s agricultural authorities and prospective distributors to bring in other fruits.

Cooking demonstrations using the tropical fruits were also held.

Yesterday’s event built on the success of the previous two editions, which were held in May and July last year.
