Cops nab lorry driver involved in six-vehicle pileup on Guthrie Highway

KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — A lorry driver has been arrested in an investigation into a six-vehicle pileup on a Guthrie Highway exit towards the Bukit Subang traffic junction yesterday, which left two people seriously injured.

Sungai Buloh police chief Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said the incident, which occurred at 1.20pm, involved a 31-year-old man who was driving a lorry from Batu Arang to Cyberjaya and purportedly lost control of the vehicle.

“Preliminary investigations based on dashcam footage revealed the lorry first collided with a Proton Saga, which then hit four other vehicles in an adjacent lane travelling in the same direction.

“All vehicles involved were badly damaged while the 29-year-old driver of the Proton Saga and her four-year-old daughter, who was in a child carseat in the back, were seriously injured,” he said in a statement today.

Hafiz said the other vehicles involved were two cars, a van and an MPV.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

Those with information on the incident are urged to contact Azie Azyantie Mohd Rafae at 013-675 6317 or the Sungai Buloh police headquarters at 03-615 61222.
