PUTRAJAYA, April 26 — The Immigration Department (JIM) of Selangor detained 23 undocumented migrants under Ops Selera and Ops Gegar at an entertainment outlet in Puchong yesterday.
Selangor Immigration director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin said those detained comprised a woman each from Thailand, Vietnam, and Morocco, who worked as waitresses, as well as 16 male workers from Myanmar and four from Bangladesh.
“All those detained are aged between 22 and 44 and have worked here for over six months. Some tried to avoid detection, either by hiding in cupboards or pretending to be customers during the raid, but to no avail,” he said in a statement today.
Khairrul added that all those arrested are believed to have entered Malaysia via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Bukit Kayu Hitam, with the help of agents.
18 Selangor Immigration officers inspected 37 individuals during the raids at 6pm, and a Summons to Witness was issued to a Malaysian during the operations.
All those detained have been sent to the Semenyih Immigration Depot, and the case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
