Bursa Malaysia confirms trading issues not widespread

KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 — Bursa Malaysia Bhd has confirmed that recent issues involving failed logins or unauthorised access and trades were not widespread, contrary to reports by some media outlets.

It clarified that the issues were limited to a small number of client trading accounts associated with a few brokers.

“As at the close of market, there have been no reports of unauthorised access or trades occurring today,” it said in a statement today.

Bursa Malaysia also gave assurances that the robustness and security of its trading and clearing systems have not been compromised.

“Bursa Malaysia’s priority is to keep the market accessible and orderly for all market participants, as the continued operation of the market is vital to sustain investor confidence over the longer term,” it said.

In response to the matter, Bursa Malaysia, in collaboration with the Securities Commission Malaysia, is working with the relevant parties to ensure that investor protection and market fairness are upheld.
