SHAH ALAM, April 22 — The state government will present rent aid worth three months, as well as a briefing on recommendations to redevelop Putra Heights neighbourhoods affected by the April 1 gas pipeline blast, to victims on Thursday.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Selangor administration has sent proposals to the federal government about plans for the area’s recovery.

“We are waiting for the Cabinet’s decision to make our next move.

“On Thursday, we will gather residents to present them with three months’ rent and inform them of redevelopment plans for the 396 households involved,” he added.

He was met after signing an agreement between Nestle Malaysia and KDEB Waste Management at the Shah Alam Convention Centre here today.

Amirudin said the state government is doing its best and is on the right track in terms of post-disaster management.

“We will explain the whats and whys of the redevelopment project. There are three categories, which we will announce during the briefing,” he added.

On April 1, a leak along the Petronas gas pipeline on Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, caused an explosion and a subsequent inferno, which shot flames 30m into the sky and took eight hours to extinguish.

The blast left behind a crater nearly 10m deep and about 500sqm in area.
