KUALA LUMPUR, April 18 — Bursa Malaysia extended its uptrend at mid-morning, tracking gains across regional markets.
At 11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) advanced 6.40 points to 1,489.67 from Thursday’s close of 1,483.27. The benchmark index opened 1.63 points lower at 1,481.64.
The broader market was positive with gainers outpacing decliners 274 versus 256, while 374 counters were unchanged, 1,519 untraded, and 29 suspended.
Turnover stood at 657.99 million shares worth RM335.92 million.
At the time of writing, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 1.61 per cent to 21,395.14, South Korea’s Kospi Index climbed 0.31 per cent to 2,477.97, Japan's Nikkei 225 Index added 0.60 per cent to 34,583.29, Indonesia's IDX Composite Index increased 0.60 per cent to 6,438.27, and Singapore’s Straits Times Index advanced 1.58 per cent to 3,720.33.
Among the heavyweights, Maybank advanced 4.0 sen to RM9.91, CIMB Group increased 5.0 sen to RM6.81, Public Bank added 3.0 sen to RM4.36, Tenaga Nasional eased 2.0 sen to RM13.46, and IHH Healthcare was flat at RM6.85.
Among the actives, Ingenieur Gudang and Widad Group added 1.0 sen to 4.0 sen, respectively, Tanco Holdings climbed 2.5 sen to 88.5 sen, Bina Puri Holdings improved half-a-sen to 35 sen, while HB Global dropped 1.5 sen to 7.5 sen.
On the index board, the FBM Emas Index jumped 40.67 points to 11,040.98, the FBMT 100 Index expanded 44.47 points to 10,828.87, the FBM Emas Shariah Index bounced 33.59 points to 10,847.53, and the FBM 70 Index gained 55.46 points to 15,482.87.
Meanwhile, the FBM ACE Index decreased 15.24 points to 4,542.89.
Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index rose 88.51 points to 17,869.41, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 0.01 of-a-point to 144.24, the Energy Index added 3.18 points to 658.53, and the Plantation Index surged 60.96 points to 7,204.11.
