Keadilan divisional polls see strong turnout

KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s divisional elections yesterday in Selangor, Melaka, Perlis and Kedah saw a 75 per cent turnout.

According to a post on the Pemilihan Keadilan 2025 Facebook page, the polls were for the election of division, women’s, and youth (AMK) leaders in three states, while in Kedah, only the divisional AMK elections were conducted.

In Selangor, all divisional elections ended at 5pm, except for Hulu Langat, where voting was extended until 7pm due to a relocation of the physical polling centre.

Selangor Keadilan deputy chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said that after the relocation, Hulu Langat division’s online and physical voting was extended by an extra two hours from the originally scheduled closing time of 5pm.

“The voting and election process today was orderly, smooth, and more mature. We hope the election results can be obtained earlier despite some technical issues,” he told Bernama.

Meanwhile, Melaka Keadilan Central Election Committee (JPP) official Mohd Lokman Abdul Gani said 40 out of 94 members eligible to vote physically cast their ballots at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh.

“There were no technical or other issues reported during today’s election,” he said, adding that 517 candidates are contesting (for divisional level posts in the state).

Perlis Keadilan Leadership Council chairman Noor Amin Ahmad said online and physical voting processes for the Kangar, Padang Besar, and Arau divisions proceeded smoothly and ended as scheduled at 5pm.

He said the new system that uses blockchain technology in the party’s elections is a positive step towards enhancing the transparency of the voting process.

Commenting on the relatively low physical voter turnout, Noor Amin did not dismiss the possibility that the single polling centre located in Kangar contributed to the lower attendance.

It was reported that only 15 out of more than 40 voters turned up physically, involving 10 members for Kangar and five for Padang Besar divisions, while there was no physical attendance recorded for the Arau division.

The elections for Keadilan divisions, their Women’s and AMK wings are scheduled from yesterday until April 20.

Elections for the Central Leadership Council, Central Women’s Leadership Council, and Central Angkatan Muda Keadilan Leadership Council positions will be held on May 24.
