ALOR SETAR, April 10 — The National Fishermen's Association (Nekmat) has warned its members against engaging in the misuse of subsidised diesel, as such actions could result in the revocation of their membership.
Its chairman Abdul Hamid Bahari said that if a member's membership is revoked, they will be denied access to various incentives, including the subsidised diesel.
Eight fishermen have had their membership revoked over the past 10 years, and although the number is relatively small, he emphasised the importance of addressing this issue.
“If they are involved, not only will their membership be revoked, but they will also face significant consequences, including the loss of access to subsidised fuel for going to sea. The actions taken will have a detrimental impact on them.
“We urge fishermen across the country to be cautious about this issue. Don’t let one bad apple spoil the whole barrel,” Abdul Hamid said met at the Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) Aidilfitri reception today.
Also present was Kedah LKIM director Ahmad Zulkifli Ismail.
