Gas pipeline blaze: Flames ebbing by nearly 3pm — Fire chief

KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — The fire from the leaking gas pipeline on Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, has been ebbing as of 1.55pm today.

Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad said the fire radius has also decreased as of the same time.

They are still carrying out monitoring at the incident location.

Earlier, Selangor deputy police chief DCP Mohd Zaini Abu Hassan said that so far, 112 victims and 49 houses had been affected in the incident, and the victims had been sent to hospitals in Cyberjaya, Serdang, and Putrajaya for further treatment.

49 more victims received initial treatment at the Sri Maha Kaliamman Temple in Subang Jaya.

Commenting on the allegation that the incident was caused by excavation works near the pipeline, Hisham said it is still too early to determine the cause of the fire.

"I think it is a bit early for us to make a statement (regarding the cause of the incident), so the investigation will be carried out led by the police, Department of Occupational Safety and Health, and related agencies to identify the cause of the incident.

"When the investigation is complete, we will state the cause of the incident. For now, there are various statements from different parties, but we cannot make an early confirmation," he told Bernama.
