KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 — The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) is looking for a chief executive officer (CEO) for the 34th SEA Games and the 15th Asean Para Games organising committee.
Both games will be held in the country in 2027.
Minister Hannah Yeoh said the ministry will hold talks with the Public Service Department (JPA) to choose a CEO before announcing members of the committee.
“After Hari Raya Aidilfitri, we will hold talks with the JPA to appoint the CEO, and it is the CEO who will decide on the appointments of the other committees.
“We don’t have much time before we host the Games, so whoever becomes the CEO will have to go with the flow and get cracking,” she told reporters at the launching of Taska Team MAS at the National Sports Institute in Bukit Jalil here today.
Yesterday, the government approved the establishment of the 34th SEA Games and the 15th Asean Para Games organising committee.
Malaysia last hosted the SEA Games in 2017, which saw the country’s contingent emerge overall champions with a haul of 145 gold, 92 silver and 86 bronze medals.
Malaysia previously hosted the biennial event in 1965, 1971, 1977, 1989, 2001 and 2017.
Earlier, Yeoh officiated the launch of Taska Team MAS, aimed at enhancing welfare support for athletes, coaches and sports agency staff, at KL Sports City.
Yeoh said Taska Team MAS is not just a childcare centre, but a symbol of KBS’ commitment to helping athletes and sports staff balance career demands and family responsibilities.
“This childcare centre will operate from 7am to 7pm. Why 7am? Because many of our athletes train early in the morning. Besides, outside childcare centres might not be open at 7am or 8am,” she said.
