SHAH ALAM, March 18 — Selangor is set to finalise five more events to be contested at the 2026 Malaysian Games (Sukma) after Aidilfitri, said state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.
He said this decision was made at a February 26 meeting where the Supreme Committee said it would allow other states to propose events for the biennial games.
“During the Sukma Supreme Committee meeting on February 26, it was decided to give any state the opportunity to propose five additional events. Currently, no decision has been made, but I expect a decision on the five events after Raya at the latest,” he said when met at the Selangor Youth Iftar 2025 here yesterday.
Previously, Najwan reportedly said that sporting events to be contested at Sukma 2026 will be finalised in August, including additional events such as pickleball, which was proposed by Selangor as the host.
Meanwhile, Najwan said the Sepang International Circuit will be the main venue for the Sukma 2026 opening ceremony, while his office is exploring venues for the closing ceremony.
“The closing ceremony usually does not involve the presence of a large contingent such as the opening, so we are looking for a venue that suits current needs.
The iftar event last night, held at Petals Event Space in Section 7 here, was attended by more than 300 youth representing the Selangor State Sports Council. It also witnessed the handover of the Selangor Youth Mobiliser main chairman’s letter to 12 people in each district.
