Aidilfitri: APAD to issue 300 temporary economy bus licences

KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) is set to issue 300 Temporary Change of Licences to economy bus operators to meet the high demand in conjunction with this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

It has implemented strict monitoring during this festive season to ensure that bus operators adhere to the set fare schedule.

Therefore, APAD reminds bus operators to adhere to the existing fare schedule to avoid suspension or revocation of the operator's licence.

Meanwhile, its team received feedback regarding users who unintentionally purchased more expensive executive tickets due to a lack of clear information during purchase.

"APAD has issued instructions to centralised ticket sales centres, both online and offline, to clearly display whether the tickets sold are economy or executive ones so that users can choose services that correspond to the ticket price they are willing to pay," APAD said in a statement today.

Additionally, it will review the existing policies and regulations, including the proposal to introduce a ceiling fare for executive services, considering the last fare rate review was conducted in 2013.

Any amendments to policies or regulations will take time as these involve legal aspects.

Since September 9, 2013, the ceiling fare for economy buses has been regulated at RM0.093 per kilometre, with an additional 10 percent limit during festive seasons, while the executive bus service does not have a ceiling fare.
