SABAK BERNAM, March 13 — A storm that struck yesterday evening damaged 48 houses in Taman Ria, Sekinchan.
Sabak Bernam Senior Assistant District Officer Mohamad Marwan Ahmad Tajuri said the total losses so far have reached RM650,000 for all types of damage to the victims' residences.
"We have completed a three-day assessment. There are no additional victims.
"A working paper will be presented at the Selangor Economic Action Council for the state government to review and take appropriate assistance measures for all victims," he told Media Selangor.
Marwan added that 19 victims from five families are currently housed at the temporary relief centre (PPS) in Dewan Seri Sekinchan.
"Some of the victims have also chosen to stay with other family members. Food and essential supplies are adequately provided for those staying at the PPS.
"Security personnel and officers from the Sabak Bernam Social Welfare Department have been stationed at the hall to monitor their welfare," he added.
Earlier, a video went viral on social media showing residents' roofs being blown away by the storm and rainwater entering their homes.
On Thursday (March 6), eight houses were destroyed due to a strong storm in Parit 4, Sungai Burong. However, no casualties or injuries were reported in the 7.30am incident.
In addition to houses, SK Parit 4 also suffered damage to its roof, teachers' quarters, canteen, and car garage.
Following the incident, the state government has provided RM500 in aid to all victims whose homes were severely damaged.
