Sabah sees drop in flood evacuees

KOTA KINABALU, March 12 — The number of flood evacuees at temporary relief centres (PPS) in Sabah has decreased to 2,308 individuals from 803 families as of 8pm, compared to 2,564 evacuees from 889 families earlier in the afternoon.

The Sabah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat attributed the decline to fewer evacuees seeking shelter at the PPS in Membakut, where only 123 individuals from 47 families remain across five centres.

“In Beaufort, the number remains unchanged at 1,719 evacuees from 556 families in seven PPS, while in Tenom, 466 individuals from 200 families are still housed in nine PPS.

“A total of 40 villages are still affected by the floods, with 20 in Tenom, and 10 each in Beaufort and Membakut.

"The trend of evacuations in Tenom and Beaufort remains the same, while Membakut has seen a decline in evacuee numbers,” it said in a statement.
