SHAH ALAM, Feb 25 — The state government welcomes the police's recommendation to tighten the new permit requirements for organising concerts and entertainment activities, including the placement of ‘Say No to Drugs’ signboards.
State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said the proposal would ensure healthier and more beneficial events, which could also contribute to economic growth, especially in conjunction with Visit Selangor Year (VSY) 2025.
“In terms of activities, we encourage healthy events so that the sector can continue to thrive. We do not want to disrupt the industry, but at the same time, we acknowledge that it also contributes to Selangor’s tourism.
“This year is VSY 2025. We encourage more performances that can entertain, benefit the community, and boost the economy,” he said when contacted today.
Previously, the Selangor police proposed that concert organisers be required to place signboards as a new condition for obtaining approval for concert permits in the state.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the matter had been submitted to the state administration and the Housing and Local Government Ministry earlier this month.
This comes after four people died during the Pinkfish Concert in early January, who were suspected of taking drugs while attending the New Year’s Eve celebration.
