SHAH ALAM, Feb 23 — Taman Sentosa in Klang has officially attained city status as of yesterday, after meeting several criteria, including a population of nearly 100,000 people.
Klang Mayor Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said the decision was made through a series of meetings and studies conducted with relevant agencies, including residents, since 2023.
“The Sentosa City Action Plan 2025-2035 has also been prepared to bring a positive impact in transforming the city's image, while simultaneously increasing property values, attracting economic opportunities, and encouraging investment here.
“I hope that all residents and relevant agencies will work together with the Klang Royal City Council to ensure that all plans can be realised so that Sentosa City continues to progress and remain sustainable,” he said in a statement.
Abd Hamid also congratulated Sentosa state assemblyman Dr G Gunarajah for proposing that the 2,229-acre area be upgraded to city status.
“Sentosa City is an older settlement, with its boundaries traced back to the original Batu Ampat Estate from around 1963. Additionally, the rapid development in this area was one of the key criteria for its upgrade,” he said.
Sentosa City enjoys a strategic location, connecting major roads including Jalan Kebun, Jalan Sungai Jati, Jalan Raja Nong, Jalan Kebun Nenas, and Persiaran Puteri. It is also well-linked to two nearby expressways — the Shah Alam Expressway and the West Coast Expressway.
It is situated near key growth centres in South Klang, including Ambang Botanik, Bandar Puteri, Bandar Putera, Bandar Bukit Tinggi 1 and 2, Bandar Botanik, Kota Bayuemas, Bandar Parkland, and Bandar Bestari.
