SHAH ALAM, Feb 22 — A man nabbed on suspicion of assaulting a girl at a mosque in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor, was yesterday remanded for seven days until February 28.

The remand order was issued by magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri.

Earlier, the suspect arrived at the Kuala Kubu Baharu Magistrate’s Court at 10.35am in a police vehicle.

Previously, a man was captured on surveillance footage trying to assault a girl in the women’s prayer area at Masjid Jamek Sungai Masin during dawn prayers. The video was widely circulated on social media.

During the incident, the victim was praying alone in the row behind other women, who were unaware of the situation as they were in prostration.

The young girl’s mother, who was also the complainant, said she brought her two children to the mosque for dawn prayers, but only the victim was praying in the last row.

Meanwhile, Hulu Selangor police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said police nabbed a 19-year-old after a report on the incident was received at 8.19am.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
