SHAH ALAM, Jan 16 — A body mass index (BMI) of under 28 is among the new criteria that police personnel must meet to be promoted, Berita Harian reported.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said this is to ensure stricter promotion standards in the force.
“This initiative is important to ensure police personnel’s health and aptitude and increase their ability to best serve the people and the country,” he said.
BMI is a measure of body weight against height, which determines whether one is of normal weight, or is underweight, overweight or obese.
For adults, a healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9. A score of 25 or more indicates overweight, while anything under 18.5 is underweight.
Speaking at a monthly assembly of police personnel in Kuala Lumpur today, Razarudin said the force will strive to make the promotion process fairer, more transparent, and more equal.
He said this includes improving the Senior Police Officers Promotion Policy with e-courses and the Online Competence Evaluation.
He added that the move prevents bias and ensures the selection of suitable, competent and eligible candidates.
