SHAH ALAM, Jan 8 — The state government, in collaboration with the Selangor Sports Council (MSN), is set to introduce the Selangor Future Cup in an effort to further boost e-sports activities among students.

Its executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi said the tournament will involve the participation of secondary school students with the cooperation of schools.

"This year, we plan to organise the Selangor Future Cup to further develop e-sports among youths, particularly secondary school students.

"We are working to secure the cooperation of schools to ensure that students participating in these activities receive proper permission and do not fall behind in their studies," he told Media Selangor yesterday.

Nizam added that e-sports programmes have consistently received enthusiastic support, especially during the organisation of the Madani Youth Tour Carnival since last year.

Regarding the development of the e-sports hub, he said the project is expected to take time due to the involvement of multiple parties and building ownership issues.

"The building is still owned by the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI, so MSN is unable to provide any updates at this stage. It may take some time," he said.

During the tabling of the 2025 Selangor Budget on November 15 last year, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the state government will renovate the Carlton Hotel into an e-sports hub with a RM1 million allocation.

This initiative aims to position Selangor as a host for e-sports tournaments at the Asean and international levels.
