Fahmi Reza detained in Sabah under Sedition Act

KOTA KINABALU, Dec 31 — Police have detained Fahmi Reza under the Sedition Act to assist in an investigation, after the activist and graphic designer appeared to give evidence at the Penampang police headquarters near here yesterday afternoon.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun, when contacted, confirmed Fahmi's arrest and said investigations are underway.

"Yes, (the case) is still under investigation," he said.

This afternoon, Jauteh told a press conference at the Sabah Contingent Police Headquarters that than 30 police reports had been received in Sabah against the activist for sedition.

Jauteh stated that police had received reports alleging that Fahmi, among others, had posted caricatures of Tun Musa Aman, who is set to be appointed as the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, in various locations, including Kota Kinabalu.

The matter, along with other acts deemed seditious, is currently under investigation.

A few days ago, a 40-second video went viral showing Fahmi in an area in Kota Kinabalu pasting the caricature.

The video was accompanied by a caption that reads: "Solidarity with the people of Sabah who fight corruption, fight bribery".

A check on the activist's Facebook page found that the video was uploaded on December 27.
