SHAH ALAM, Dec 18 — The Selangor International Book Fair (SIBF) 2024, organised by the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS), has reinforced the state’s standing as a regional literacy centre.

PPAS corporate unit head Zafrullah Aris said the event has elevated local literary works to the international stage with the participation of global industry partners.

“Among the participating countries were Japan, India, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines.

“The selection of China as the focus country, marking the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations, and the involvement of the Russian Embassy via the Russian House in Kuala Lumpur, add significant international depth,” he said in a statement.

The fair, held at Setia City Convention Centre from November 27 to December 3 in conjunction with the Selangor Education Summit (SES), drew approximately 230,000 visitors.

A total of 320 exhibitors, including those from Singapore, Indonesia and China, showcased a wide range of reading materials across genres, accompanied by activities such as main stage events, a children’s piano, and academic sessions.

Officiated by Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, the SES and SIBF were celebrated with an array of programmes catering to all age groups.

The event also featured the Selangor Research and Innovation Expo, the Selangor STEM Education Expo, and the WorldSkills Malaysia Selangor 2024 competition.
