SHAH ALAM, Dec 16 — The Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) is paving the way for Malaysian startups to compete on a global stage by linking entrepreneurs with world-class industry leaders through initiatives like the recently concluded Selangor E-Commerce Xcellerator (ECX24) International Innovation Trip to China.
Held from December 1-7, the programme immersed the top 10 winners of the ECX24 in Shanghai’s vibrant innovation ecosystem.
The initiative aimed to empower Malaysian startups by exposing them to cutting-edge technologies, global market trends, and strategic business practices, said Sidec chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping.
“At Sidec, we believe that global exposure is critical for entrepreneurs to innovate and scale their businesses.
“The ECX24 International Innovation Trip has provided our top startups with invaluable insights into global e-commerce ecosystems and advanced business strategies.
“We are confident this experience will empower them to embrace innovation and compete on a global stage,” he said in a statement today.
Participants engaged in a series of industry visits, workshops, and hands-on learning sessions. Highlights included a tour of ChatPlus AI headquarters, where startups explored AI-driven solutions for customer engagement across platforms such as Shopee, Lazada and TikTok.
The group also visited Douyin’s Livestream Rooms and cutting-edge logistics facilities like Nike's fully automated warehouse in Suzhou, showcasing advanced operational efficiencies.
Networking opportunities were also a key component of the trip, where participants engaged with key industry figures and government representatives, including during a formal dinner hosted by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
Additional visits to Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) Shanghai and Plug & Play Shanghai provided valuable guidance on market entry strategies and navigating China’s innovation landscape.
