KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 — Selangor FC’s 4-0 victory over Philippine club Cebu FC in their final Group H match of the AFC Champions League II was not enough to secure their place in the Round of 16.
The Red Giants finished third in the group with 10 points, behind Thailand’s Muangthong United, which accumulated 11 points after a 1-0 win over group leaders Jeonbuk Hyundai.
Playing to win, Katsuhito Kinoshi’s men started strong, scoring in the final minutes of the first half through striker Yohandry Orozco, who headed in a cross from Alvin Fortes to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Selangor quickly doubled their lead through Orozco again in the 48th minute.
The visitors then added two more goals through Nooa Laine in the 57th minute and Fortes in the 79th minute to secure the 4-0 victory.
This was Selangor’s first win under the guidance of Katsuhito after losing their previous two domestic matches.
Jeonbuk emerged as group winners with 12 points, one point ahead of Muangthong United in second place, while Cebu finished bottom with one point.
