Thailand, Singapore discuss food security in high-level talks

BANGKOK, Nov 29 — Food security, energy security, the green economy, and digital connectivity were key topics discussed during a meeting between Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong yesterday.

Paetongtarn described the discussions with Wong, which covered a wide range of issues of mutual interest, as fruitful.

“During the discussions, we expressed hope for enhanced trade and investment between our two countries. Thailand is particularly keen to bolster Singapore’s food security through increased exports of premium Thai rice and organic eggs,” she told the press.

This marks Wong’s first official visit to Thailand since assuming office in May.

“The visit provides an opportunity to review existing collaborations and chart the course for future initiatives,” Paetongtarn said, adding that Thailand is preparing to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Singapore next year.

Next year will additionally see an increase in high-level exchanges, starting with Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s visit to Singapore in January.

Thailand also looks forward to welcoming Singapore’s President on an official visit, while Paetongtarn plans to make a reciprocal trip to Singapore.
