SHAH ALAM, Nov 21 — Selangor aims to leverage its role as the host of the 2026 Malaysian Games (Sukma) to secure its 10th overall championship title at the biennial event.
State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the current priority is to focus on preparing the athletes in line with the plan outlined by the Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS).
“This is to ensure the athletes and teams are fully prepared to represent the Selangor contingent at Sukma 2026.
“Several aspects are being addressed, including training allowances, training venues, high-performance coaches, equipment, insurance coverage, sports science facilities, and exposure to both domestic and international tournaments,” he said.
Najwan said this in his wind-up speech for the 2025 Selangor State Budget at the assembly here today.
He added that the state government has allocated RM6 million to the MSNS to conduct development programmes and prepare the state contingent for the 22nd Sukma.
“The allocation is insufficient as the MSNS must manage a large contingent and, as the host, compete in all the events scheduled.
“Therefore, the state government will collaborate with state subsidiaries and local authorities to support various sports, including sponsoring athletes’ needs and ensuring adequate budget allocations,” he said.
