Tun Daim Zainuddin dies 

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 — Former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin died at a private hospital this morning. He was 86.

His lawyer, Datuk Gurdial Singh Nijar, confirmed the news when contacted.

He said Daim had been hospitalised for the past two weeks.

Daim, whose real name is Che Abdul Daim Zainuddin, served as finance minister from 1984 to 1991 and held the position again from 1999 to 2001.

In a statement, Daim’s family confirmed that the deceased breathed his last at Assunta Hospital, Petaling Jaya at 8.21am.

“The funeral prayer will be held after the Asar prayer at Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan, Jalan Duta,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Daim's body was taken to his residence in Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur, before noon,, for friends and relatives to pay their last respects.

Several cars believed to be carrying the family members of the former Cabinet member were also spotted accompanying the hearse as it left Assunta Hospital at 11.02am.

Members of the media had been flocking to the hospital immediately after the news of Daim’s passing broke out.
