Qatar denies withdrawing as mediator in Gaza ceasefire talks, says efforts stalled

DOHA, Nov 10 — Qatar has denied media reports that it has withdrawn as mediator in the Gaza ceasefire negotiation.

Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari said the reports were inaccurate, reported Qatar News Agency (QNA).

He said the efforts are stalled temporarily and will resume when parties show “their willingness and seriousness to end the brutal war and the ongoing suffering of civilians caused by catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Strip”.

He underscored Qatar’s readiness to be at the forefront of efforts to end the war and secure the release of hostages and prisoners.

In a statement to QNA, Al Ansari said Qatar will not tolerate blackmail over its mediation of the ceasefire talks, as it has seen manipulation since the collapse of the first pause, and the exploitation continuous negotiations to justify the continuation of the war to serve narrow political purposes

Al Ansari also said media reports regarding the Hamas office in Doha are inaccurate, adding that the main goal of the office in Qatar is to be a channel of communication between concerned parties.

He stressed the need to obtain information from official sources.

“This channel has contributed to achieving a ceasefire in previous stages, and contributed to maintaining calm in the Strip in the run-up to exchanging hostages and women and children detainees in November last year,” he said.
