SHAH ALAM, Nov 8 — Selangor’s upcoming state budget for 2025 will strongly focus on technology, environmental initiatives, and sustainable growth, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

In a video posted on his social media today, Amirudin said the budget is anticipated to enhance ongoing programmes while introducing several new measures to position the state as progressive and environmentally conscious.

“We will prioritise technology and the environment and ensure the well-being of the people,” said Amirudin.

The Selangor state budget, scheduled to be tabled on November 15, is expected to continue the state’s commitment to sustaining and improving its green footprint.

Amirudin said this focus builds on last year’s state budget, which emphasised major infrastructure projects, including the development of major economic zones such as the Integrated Development Region in South Selangor (Idriss), Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda), and the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG).

He also mentioned that the budget will touch on a proposed rail network in the state, the Kita Selangor Rail line.

Amirudin also emphasised integrating technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), into the state’s planning and workforce.

In light of recent job cuts at tech giants like TikTok, he acknowledged the challenges and opportunities AI presents, stressing the importance of readiness for a tech-driven future.

“We can’t ignore AI as it will help streamline and simplify our work. As we approach an AI-driven future, we must prepare by building a workforce and establishing an ecosystem that supports this shift,” he said.

Amirudin said the budget will also focus on education and training, particularly for Selangor’s youth, including technical and vocational training schemes for school leavers.

New initiatives will include early internship programmes designed for students after SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia).

He said these programmes will help them acquire skills for both technical and professional fields to ensure their competitiveness in modern job markets.

Meanwhile, in support of Visit Selangor Year 2025, Amirudin said the budget will also allocate funds to promote the state’s diverse tourist attractions.

“Every year, we allocate a budget to promote tourism within Selangor,” he said, highlighting destinations ranging from ecotourism spots in Hulu Langat, Banting, Sekinchan, and Sabak Bernam to modern leisure facilities, among others.

Amirudin is scheduled to table the 2025 Selangor Budget on November 15 at 3pm at the State Legislative Assembly building, here.
