JERTIH, Nov 2 — The government will expand the Kampung Angkat Madani programme to 200 villages nationwide next year, up from 100 villages this year.
Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Marican said the programme will be expanded with a RM200 million allocation, following positive feedback from various quarters.
“The increase in the number of adopted villages next year is in line with the government’s concept for ministries and departments to go down to the grassroots to understand and promptly address local issues,” he said.
Johan was speaking to the press after officiating the Finance Ministry's (MOF) Kampung Angkat Madani Carnival at SK Kampung La in Hulu Besut today.
He added that ministries and departments, including MOF, will utilise such programmes to meet the needs of residents in their respective areas.
“For the adopted villages in Hulu Besut, MOF has built four permanent flood relief centres in four villages for use by residents, especially during the flood season.
“Apart from that, 25 boats are ready to be mobilised for flood response in 10 villages under the programme, along with various facilities worth a total of RM2.5 million,” Johan said.
Meanwhile, the Kampung Angkat Madani Carnival, held from Thursday (October 31) until today, provided local residents with access to a range of government services, like health screenings.
