SHAH ALAM, Oct 23 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has welcomed the immediate allocation of RM150 million to local authorities, as announced in the Budget 2025 last Friday.

Shah Alam Mayor Dato’ Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said the funds will be utilised to cover the high costs of upgrading the city’s drainage system.

“With this immediate funding, we can focus on flood-related issues, such as upgrading and repairing several drainage systems in identified high-risk areas.

“Local authorities do require additional allocations, as maintaining these systems incurs high costs,” he said during the Deepavali donation handover programme at Dewan Bunga Kertas, TTDI Jaya, here, yesterday.

When tabling the Budget 2025 on October 18, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had announced an immediate allocation of RM150 million to local authorities and the Irrigation and Drainage Department for drainage cleaning and deepening of rivers in flood-affected urban areas.

He added that nearly RM600 million has been allocated to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) to enhance flood preparedness.

This includes more than RM300 million reserved for immediate response, ensuring the country is well-equipped to handle disasters as they arise.
