Govt has not increased haemodialysis treatment costs since 2016 — Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — The government has never increased the cost of haemodialysis treatment at Health Ministry (MOH) facilities, said its minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

In a Facebook post today, he said the fee of RM13 per session, or typically RM169 per month for haemodialysis treatment provided three times a week, has remained unchanged since 2016.

Additionally, the cost for basic services at MOH facilities is still RM1, while specialist services cost RM5.

"An old viral message that claims Malaysia is moving towards ‘paid healthcare services’ has resurfaced. It must be emphasised that the Malaysian government, particularly under the Malaysia Madani administration, has repeatedly affirmed its commitment to maintaining open access to healthcare services or #UniversalHealthcare.

“The Unity Government has never increased the cost of haemodialysis treatment and has no plans to review any fees at this time," Dr Dzulkefly said, adding that the spread of such inaccurate and irresponsible messages should be stopped.
