SHAH ALAM, Oct 16 — The Dusun Tua state constituency mobilised over 100 volunteers to assist victims of flash floods in Kampung Sungai Serai, Batu 11 yesterday.
Its state assemblyman Datuk Johan Abd Aziz said all the victims were rescued and relocated to the temporary relief centre (PPS) at SK Sungai Serai.
"This volunteer squad was established during the major floods in 2021, using assets that include 13 boats. They have basic boat-handling skills trained by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force.
"Other affected areas include Kampung Sungai Lui and Kampung Sungai Jawa. The floodwaters have started to recede, and now the volunteer squad is focusing on helping with cleaning efforts in the victims' homes," he told Media Selangor.
Johan added that his team provided 1,500 food packages for the victims and the volunteers.
"I have taken the initiative to personally cook at the PPS, with assistance from non-governmental organisations to ease the burden on the victims," he shared.
Continuous rain from yesterday afternoon until late yesterday night caused several areas in Hulu Langat to be flooded.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s Info Bencana portal, as of 12.45pm, only one PPS has been opened in the Hulu Langat area, sheltering 33 victims from 12 families.
