Sidec bags global award for promoting digital inclusion

By Selangor Journal Team

SHAH ALAM, October 8 — The Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) received international recognition for its efforts to promote digital inclusion among local businesses.

It was named the winner of the Digital Opportunity/Inclusion Award (Public Sector) at the World Innovation, Technology and Services Alliance (Witsa) Excellence Awards 2024, held in Yerevan, Armenia on October 6.

Sidec was recognised for its key initiatives such as the Selangor 1000 Digital 2024 and the Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant (ECM) Awards.

It is one of only two Malaysian organisations to receive an honour at the awards ceremony this year, the other being Telekom Research and Development Sdn Bhd, which won the Digital Transformation of the Year Award (Private Sector/NGO) for its Mobile Intelligent Network Diagnostic System.

Sidec chief operating officer Loo Chuan Boon expressed immense pride and delight at being recognised by Witsa for its ongoing efforts to drive digital opportunities and inclusion.

“This international recognition reinforces Sidec’s role as a leader in digital transformation and its ongoing efforts to drive innovation within Malaysia’s public sector.

“It represents not just Sidec’s achievements, but also the resilience and adaptability of the small and medium enterprises we serve.

“With initiatives like the Selangor 1000 Digital 2024 and the Malaysia Top ECM Awards, we are empowering businesses to thrive in the digital economy. We are excited to continue this journey and create even more impactful opportunities in the future,” he said in a statement by the agency today.

Sidec also expressed gratitude to all key stakeholders who have supported and contributed to the success of the two programmes.

The Selangor 1000 Digital 2024 initiative empowers over 1,000 entrepreneurs in Selangor by providing access to comprehensive digital tools and solutions.

Through training, technology, and mentorship, businesses are equipped with the resources they need to expand and succeed in the digital age.

The Malaysia Top ECM Awards, meanwhile, recognises and celebrates outstanding e-commerce merchants across the country. Over 500 merchants were shortlisted for the awards this year.
