SHAH ALAM, Oct 4 — The Selangor government will distribute a RM1,000 emergency aid to families who were affected by the floods and took shelter in temporary relief centres (PPS) across the state.
State executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi said the assistance is being coordinated by the Petaling Land and District Office to ease the burden of those affected by the disaster.
“In Selangor, we offer specific aid to those affected by floods. However, they need to register at the PPS to facilitate the distribution process,” he said after visiting the Dewan Seri Pagi Paya Jaras PPS here today.
The centre was closed this afternoon after 101 victims from 26 families were allowed to return home.
Two other PPS are still open in Paya Jaras — the Petaling Land and District Office’s Dewan Kenanga, which is housing 265 victims from 64 families, and Dewan MBSA Matahari, which is sheltering 48 individuals from 14 families.
It was reported that as of last night, 1,968 victims from 480 families were forced to seek shelter following floods in the Petaling, Gombak and Kuala Selangor districts.

Meanwhile, Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) has allocated RM50,000 to assist flood victims who were displaced due to the disaster.
Its chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the assistance includes dry food, sanitary pads, disposable diapers, mineral water, mattresses and water heaters.
“For a start, we distributed aid to Dewan Seri Pagi yesterday and are now coordinating for seven more PPS, with a total of over 1,000 victims.
Azri said Yayasan MBI is collaborating with community service centres in affected state constituencies, as well as village heads, to distribute aid to all victims.
“We also provide additional assistance after the floods, which includes a goodwill payment of RM500 to those in the PPS.”
